My exhaust is blowing at a joint, i assumed (without looking) it will need one of those wire compession gasket things at the joint of the cat and centre section.
The exhaust probably does need replacing soon (1996 and not replaced since new) but i cant afford it at the moment, i thought it would be over £500, but I have just found this......

Have they got the price right? seems cheap to me? or is it crap that will break a year down the line?

they also say it has 2 year warranty, so it cant be too bad!

I found that site a while ago and the exhausts are very cheap.  Think you may have a problem though.  If I'm right the joint you are describing is the flexi joint which is part of the front exhaust section.  That site if I recall correctly does not sell the front part of the exhaust only the mid and rear sections for meggys.  Mine is a 2 litre so if your car is the same I think you'll be out of luck.  Check the diagram they have with the part numbers.  Kwik fit sold me mine for £124 (with cat) but that is not fitted.  Pretty sure you could source one that is cheaper.

mine is 3.0 v6, it has 2 sections, one each side of the car, i wouldve thought the 16v only has one. (one manifold,one cat, centre section etc where as the v6 has 2 manifolds, 2 cats, 2 centre sections & 1 backbox).

The joint looks fairly rigid (but i assume it must have some flexibility in it for shakes and vibrations) but it definatly isn't "flexible"

that diagram looks to be the correct system for my car, only thing it dosent have is manifolds.

I was just surprised at how cheap it is, especially with 2 cats.

The listing indicates that both cats are included for that price. Confirmed by putting in cat only on querry.
So it appears that for the price you get it all from manifolds back
Not vaux parts tho do make more noise and dont last as long but for that money - change it every couple of years and still come out on top

exactly what i was thinking, and if it starts to look nackered or starts blowing towards the end of the 2 years take it off and get them to send a new one!

think i may give it a go at the end of the month.

I wouldn't change the cats though, the originals should still be fine.

i went to quick fit and got a new exhaust from the cats back. it only cost £200 and i got a 3 year warranty. and of course they fitted it.

Yes, and when the baffles fail (as they did on mine after two years) they will say bugger off, its not got a hole and the internals are not covered by the warranty!

Genuine on trade club is about 250 quid by the way.

I originally went to kwik fit to get it fitted.  The reason I took the exhaust home and did it myself was that the guy was trying to convince me that my middle section also needed replaced because he was going to wreck it fitting on the new exhaust.  Needless to say I took it home and had no problems whatsoever fitting the front section to the mid.

Usual KF ploy to sell you more than you need. Plus, if they are replacing the whole system one of their Wookies can rip it out without worrying about breaking it.

I have a Saloon 3.0 v6 full exhaust (minus the cats which you most likely wont really need to change anyway) here thats in near new condition and has duel pipe out from the exhaust...and only looking for £110 including postage...

That happened to me once, i went the KF with a Jag V12 and they wanted over £500, i ended up fixing the break in the middle myself with an exhaust fix kit i got from Halfrauds for less than a tenner...

I wouldn't change the cats though, the originals should still be fine.

its the cats im worried about though, I havnt tried to get it off, but the bolts that hold the centre section to the cats are completly rusted, along with the thread that is actually in the cat part.

I fear that if  try un-do it it will bust the thread in the cat, or snap/round the bolt of and leave a right mess for me to sort out!
I dont want to take it off, then find out The thread in the cat part is broken & i will be left without a car untill i can source a new cat.

If all went wrong,  thought about drilling the thread out and using a new bolt with a nut on the otherside of the cat flange. Dont think this will work though as i assume the bolt is shouldered  to allow the correct gap for some sort of compression gasket or something?
