I wouldn't change the cats though, the originals should still be fine.

its the cats im worried about though, I havnt tried to get it off, but the bolts that hold the centre section to the cats are completly rusted, along with the thread that is actually in the cat part.

I fear that if  try un-do it it will bust the thread in the cat, or snap/round the bolt of and leave a right mess for me to sort out!
I dont want to take it off, then find out The thread in the cat part is broken & i will be left without a car untill i can source a new cat.

If all went wrong,  thought about drilling the thread out and using a new bolt with a nut on the otherside of the cat flange. Dont think this will work though as i assume the bolt is shouldered  to allow the correct gap for some sort of compression gasket or something?

Either ask a friendly exhaust place to use oxy-acet bottles to heat up the bolt to attempt removal. If it hits the fan though & breaks it's not as complicated as you fear. There's just a gasket (if you're lucky) between the 2 sections & it'd be perfectly OK to just use a nut & bolt.

There is no gasket (although I clean the face of the joint and use the finest wipe of exhgaust sealent) and the bolts are not shoulderd so you cand drill adn use nuts and bolts.

To be honest, I find using rust flash (cooling penetrating fluid) and some heat gets the bolts out ok.

I have used these guys before for a friends Polo rear box.  Delivered quickly and fit perfectly. 18months on and no problems but I havent had a look at it to see what state it is in.

Personally if the cats are still good I wouldent change them unless they are built into the flexijoint.

No flexijoint on the V6 units.
