Check fuel filter. Check air filter. Get the engine ecu read in case there are stored codes.

Ok, its never shown a EM light (according to a woman), if I do a paper clip test will that show me stored code's?

HEY we are not all bad(did you explain what and where the eml light was?)

Does it have a sports button and have you tried to see if there is any change when using it? if so i would sugest its a fuel snag.

Does not sound like a gearbox snag to me but then i am a woman!!!! lmao

Yes, Orange EML at the Front and Diesel goes in at the Back (you dont thick she's Petrol in it??)  .

Ok, seriuosly, She's quite a good driver so yea she knows what all those bulbs mean. To be honest I didn't try the Sports Button, will give it go, I was thinking about this last night and also thinking Fuel problem now (low fuel presure), I'll post some more later after I've taken IT for a spin.

Took it for another spin, Sport mode works fine, check for brake binding, no problems, never got round to the Air, Fuel filter and Diesel Magic thing (rang out of time), Gave it another good b*ll*cking seems to run as a underpowered BM 2.5TD does do, so no problems, but still wont do more than 70 Mph on the Mway.

A friend of mine, says check the Torque / Power by driving the car up a steep pavement / kerp from a stand still. (ie 90 degrees face on). So found a nice steep kerp and .. nothing it just rev'ed made lots of noise but wouldn't mount the pavement, so just to convince myself tried this with a normal kerb...same thing lots of noise but no joy?

Ok, so I need to take TB advice about F, A filter and diesel magic (which I havent done yet) but cant mount the kerp?,, Is this a loss of power from the engine or a gearbox problem?.. Im guessing this is related as to why the thing wont do more than 70!

The thing that confuses me is the trackter sounds and doe's what it should do at low to mediam rev's !

Any idea's

Thanks Chris.

Just a wild guess but, a turbo diesel that is suffering a power loss? Is the turbo working?? Should be able to hear it wind up under load.

This might also explain why it is good at low revs but struggles when more power is required. :-/

Good point. Could be a wastegate stuck open or an intercooler hose split.

Hi again, ok, replaced fuel and air filter, filled the filter half with diesel and diesel magic, checked for any split pipes etc cant see anything, gone for a spin... still the same.

So, what do you think ? am I looking at a engine or gearbox prob?

Chris.

So the 70mph bit, when it gets there, its just gutless, or is it revving, but not going any faster?

(the 70 MPH thing), It gets there, it seems to drive fairley normal around town etc, if you hit the slip road on the Mway, it will pull as normal up to 65 - 70 without to much problems (lets face it there not the fastest things arround).

Ive only got my own 2.5 TD (manual) to compare it with, the only thing I can say is as before when you pull away from a stand still, seems to be slightly more noise than needed before it pulls off, but once its running its fine, Im sort of putting that as it being an Auto.

Hi again (TB) prob did answer your question correctly, at 70 if assuming its in final, it will kick down obviously now reving but will change a couple of MPH, hard foot still, it will stay there in 3rd, ease off it will change up in final, try and gently speed up in top again a couple of MPH change but thats your lot.

Do you have facility to measure boost pressure?

I'm thinking along lines of holed pipe post turbo...

Not really, I could borrow the Boost Gauge from my cossie easy enough, but surely that would mean fitting a sender on the TD, or is there something already there that could be used?
