Hi All,

 Don`t know if this has been covered before has can`t find anything  in past threads,  engine fan is on even after a few minutes engine running, no loss off water, temp guage running at 95 and without over heating is it radiator sensor faulty  plus is it a quick job to sort?

 the car is a  V reg, 2.5 automatic 83000 miles saloon

Engine fan will run on for a short time after the engine is switched off - normal, don't know if you have aircon with your v6 but it's two fans will slso run on for a short time.
Loss of coolant is the key a number of problems, if no loss things seem normal.

Which fan? If it's the front two, they are always on when air conditioning is on, auto mode.

If it's the main cooling fan behind the radiator, at these air temperatures it's very unlikely to be normal. Either the thermoswitch is defective, or you have a cooling problem.

The main fan and the auxiliary pump will run after shutdown, but only with a very hot engine.

It has air con fitted but not used much, the fan came on during the summer months but has only just started coming on recently even after a short while after starting the engine  and before it reaches working temp. The car is not used during weekdays

Check the running temperature and the fan switch, that does not sound right to me.

temp guage is saying 95, never goes past this, even in last summer short heat wave.  How do do test the switch plus which one of the two is it?

My version of the technical information and wiring diagrams has given up, but as far as i can remember there are two speeds for the main fan.
These are likely to be controlled by either a two stage thermoswitch, that will have three or more connectors. Or two switches, one for each speed. If you can see two switches and they have two connectors each, remove a wire from one and see if the fan stops. That should identify which is turning the fan on.

You could remove the switch and heat it in water to check its closing temperature.

Is it likely that these switches close early?

Some easy tests;

What happens when you run the air conditioning? Do you have both front fans running and does the rear fan still start?
What engine temperature do you see when the main fan starts?
Does the main fan continue to run when the engine is shut down?

success!!   the bulb had blown in the air con swtcth giving me the impression the switch was off .  Will be sorting it out at the weekend when theres more light  many thanks for all the advice
