Auto box any good?
« on: 11 February 2008, 18:51:34 »

hi guys, just new here but im after an omega for getting started into a bit of diffin / drifting.

i know the MV6 is the usual choice, with the LSD and manual gearbox but i do like the spec list in the elite (both facelift models). any elites i come across are all autos, but is the auto box coupled with an MV6 LSD and good for drifting??
probably end up with an MV6 and change the interior to match an elite lol!!

MV6 doesn't have an LSD by default, in fact, it's mostly just ex-police ones which do. You'll be very lucky to find a consumer MV6 with an LSD fitted.

I'd also say that an auto gearbox won't be ideal for what you want. Never tried anything like that* but I'd say the auto box is too high geared from a standing start and not controllable enough.

LSD's are very rare, usually only found on x-police ones, and only some police ones have it too. Its luck of the draw

according to the haynes book of 'dangle berries' ,there is aplate fixed to the underside of the diff casing, there are 2 rows of letters on this .the second letter on the bottom row tells you if it has an lsd fitted.s=yes,o=no :y

Unlikely you'll be able to read it, unlike Haynes cars that have never seen daylight

The other way to test if you have an LSD...

Park with one rear wheel on a grass verge (NOT your neighbours lawn, I suggest) and pull away sharply with traction control off. If the wheel on the grass just spins and you don't get a lot of traction it's not an LSD.

anyone trying this on a regular basis will no doubt become unpopular with the local residents  ;D

Undoubtedly. But "local" is easily redefined  by driving a little while before trying it ;D

Jack the arse up in the air and turn the one of the wheels, dependant on what happens to the other one you can see from this.

Can't remember so do a search on www.sxoc.com for the solution.

cheers
