major oil leak
« on: 15 February 2008, 00:49:15 »

first off thanks for the help on last post :y.

i have got a bad oil leak from the back of the engine(left side).
as far as i can see it's NOT comming from the cam cover just below is dry,it seems to be where the head bolts onto the block?,i have been told that it is a head gasket gone but i'am not sure as i dont seem to have any of the normal signs,
could it be anything else???? :-/

Oil cooler perhaps, i've had a leak from one of the banjo bolts in the top of it before.

I've also had a major leak from the R/H cam cover which I was convinced wasn't the cam cover as it was also dry,  changed the gaskets and put new oil in and the leak stopped so it's always worth double double checking.

Quite agree with you. Have a real good look mate, oil leaks are not always leaking from where you first think ;)

Cant see how it could be headgasket as there is only one pressurised oil way which is well away from the edge and not near the rear corner.

Oil returns are at less than atmosperic pressure so its not liek they are likely to spew oil.

Do check the oil cooler pipe to block joints, if the cooler has been changed in the past and the job was bodged (i.e the pipes were bent!) then it can loosen these joints.
