That looks pretty wet top left ... do you have a leak of some sort that is

a) causing the tin rot in that area

b) probably the cause of the "misting up"

before fixing the problem... find the cause ... or it'll just happen again . :(

my Elite saloon mists up too although the cubby hole is empty.

try and figure out where that damp is coming from - maybe a drain is blocked somewhere.  I'd pour water on the rear corner of the roof and over the boot  (with it closed ;)) and see if it gets worse.

thanks Ent - i need to let it dry out with the boot open over the weekend to assess the damage too much condensation runing off everywhere at moment.

The boot floor has separated from wing the rusting is so bad :exclamation

not truely structural as not close enough to suspenion mounts but still worrying - don't think i'll tow the trailler down to the tip this weekend !!! ::)

should that second hole have a black plastic vent? i guess that it lets moisture/stale air out and doesn't let the rain in ?? :question

cheers guys

There should be a second vent in there and the vent has a one way valve type setup to stop moisture and road spray getting in.

First you have to clean it from the rust using steel brush. Then buy an anti-rust paint (spray or brush) put few layers and check from underneath as there might be same thing. If you wont clean it now, you will have an MOT problems.
As advised, check where the water is coming from. Clean everything, you may also put some paper towels to find out where the leakage starts.
It’s usually seal (saloons), joints problem underneath back window and vents.
Misting is usually because of jammed air filter. You can find advice on how to find it. How can you check is has to be replaced? Turn the fan on on position 2-3. Then unlock the filter and try to pull it downwards. If the suction makes you use a lot of force, filter needs to be changed.
I also found that even new filter blocks the air and as soon as fans are on 70% it’s hard to take the filter out.
I’ve taken the filter out ( I know the consequences) and now misting is gone.

Yes, the pollen filter. Turn the fan on (50-60%) and try to remove it. You will find how hard it is to take it out. I have taken my out to dry the car inside.
Many times the drain under the filter is blocked. Not the scuttle. Look at the bottom where the filter is mounted. You may find a lot of sole and leafs in there. There is a drain at the bottom and is going out inside the engine bay, just around ABS pump. I used a hoover to clean it as there is no place to put your hand.
You can also pour some water into the hole where the filter is and find out if the drain is clean. If not, you can squeeze it to help push the dirt out.
I will try to make few photos today to help you find it.
Hope this helps.

As already said O/S/R space keep clear, CD muliplay unit only, also if you run the car with ECO on the inside WILL mist up, try to run with aircon on (if fitted). :y

Phew!HerefordElite that is looking grim!  I have the tinworm on nearside rear door sill and adjacent rear arch (WHY?) but that looks a bit annoying.

Mark thanks for the bulbs link. ;)
