Opel Tech2
« on: 17 February 2008, 17:08:29 »

Hi All

I recently bought a Tech2 and Opel software (inc TIS 2007 software) to see if I could use this to understand the EMS messages on my 3.2 and maybe clear it.  Today was the first time I got to use the kit.

However, no matter what I try, when I start the software it says 'The Device is Not Connected'.

I have a converter from the serial conn to a USB port on my laptop (running XP) and a COM tester shows this to be working.

Tried connecting in the diagnostics port on the car (under the steering wheel) and switching engine on and off and all the usual combinations)

I realise this could be anything, but can any of the experts with this stuff give me a guide??

Failing that, does anyone wanna make me an offer for this Tech2 and latest Vauxhall diagnostic software (TIS 2007)? :(

Thanks

MJ

Generally they need a 'real' com port, don't often work with an adapter.  :(

Is it a real Tech2 (LCD display, with about 20 buttons) or a cheapo Tech2 lead (small box with diag connector and pc connector, nothing else)?

If the cheapo, it doesn't work with TIS.  It only works with some buggy horrible Hungarian software.  And it doesn't like usb to serial adapters.

If the former, PM me how much you want for it ;).  Also, only certified hardware is gauranteed to work, currently HP nc6400 laptop (which I happen to use at work ;)) and certain serial ports.  Though in my experience, virtually anything works, including usb to serail apaters.

I already have latest TIS, so thats no good to me...

Funny that as the Tech II is made by HP IIRC! HP trying to 'con' GM by any chance?!!!

if yours is a 'vagcom' type lead, hungarian wont work, as its missing the multiplexor....

Yes, sounds like a dumb vagcom lead - basically just a max232 chip with its supporting components?
