Model Verification
« on: 17 February 2008, 04:22:49 »

I recently considered trading my Omega in against a Signum. I didn't in the end. One reason being the derisory trade in offer.

When inspecting my Omega the dealer (who was using Glasses guide) told me that my model didn't exist. It is an Elite and has always been and has all the Elite specifications even including parking pilot, EXCEPT (according to the dealer) because it has a velour (not leather) interior and is a V6 manual (not automatic) it's a non-existant specification according to Glasses.

Everything about the car is original as supplied from new. Is the dealer right or is he (and Glasses) just badly informed?

Regards,

Big D.

Not 100% sure, but you can get manual Elites... And im sure you could have velour instead of leather if you choose too - bit like an optional extra, but downgrading!

there's a 3.0 manual elite on trader or ebay at the moment, considerably cheaper than mine... not pleased!

the changeover was Jan 2001, so if yours was made before but registered after, some valuation companies dont have them in their paperwork depending on your engine

2.5 and 3.0 were replaced with 2.6 and 3.2 but because mine was a late registered Y reg they always ask "are you sure it's a 3.0 cos all we can find is 3.2"

Leather only standard on 3.0/3.2 (even then, cloth was no cost option).

Manual was no cost option on all but 3.2 petrol (and only option on 2.2DTi)

Thanks for the info guys, that explains it.

It's a 2.5 built November 2000 reg Jan 2001. I guess Glasses don't list it or at least not properly.

It occurs to me that maybe the dealer was trying  to unsettle me. He'd already commented on how good the car is, spotless, wheelbarrow full of history, well looked after - and knew he was going to make what I would see as a really bad p/x offer.

And BOY was it bad!  >:(

Yes, but maybe he was also offering a good deal on the signum and warranty etc?

It probably wouldn't have made any difference what the car was like condition wise etc. They just pick the prices out of a book (as you have found)...then it's probably off to the auction for your old beastie  :(

I'd rather give it away to someone who would appreciate it and how well it's been looked after, and look after it themself than let the trade have it for some trade numpty to profiteer at my expense.

Don't form a queue just yet though  8-)

Hello,
Just a thought. Was the price the dealer quoted a trade value or part exchange value? There is a difference, part ex-values, found in parkers guides etc, are always higher than trade values. Look up on line to get an indication of the value of your car then at least you will know if he is trying it on. If he can’t find the exact model of car in his black book  then the closest to it should be fine, and ask to see it, if he refuses to show you thank him for his time and walk away.
It sound like he didn’t want to do a deal. Best thing is to find a private sale price for your car, advertise it, sell it and buy a new car in cash. With the cash in pocket you will find a bargain, especially private sales.

Sorry forgot to mention.
Do not worry about buying private,. All the blab bla about buying from a garage equals piece of mind with a warranty is pants. Garage complains are on the up and buying a personal warranty is easy. I bought my 2001 2.6 CDX last June and just before christmas it started to use coolant. I phoned my warranty company up, warranty direct, and they said take it to a garage. I did this and had a full top end rebuild, head gaskets and timing belt kit. I only paid for the timing belt kit and fluids, can you imagine a garage forking out for this sort of repair without protest 5 months after purchase?
Anyway this is way off topic, I just wanted to say people can buy private with confidence and save a lot of money.
