Noisy engine!
« on: 17 February 2008, 19:11:32 »

Hi. Does anyone know what would cause a petrol 2.5 V6 engine to sound noisy?  It sounds a bit tappy all the time.  It's been running cold, could that affect it?

Thanks a lot. :y

how cold is it running? it should be about half way on the gauge.

if it is running really cold as in just off the bottom then i'd have thought the oil isn't getting up to temp and not lubricrating properly.

just an idea :-/

Thanks. A garage did the oil and filter change but I think they were a bit useless as now it seems to be leaking oil from the filter.

It's running really cold. The needle doesn't move at all most of the time

I'm almost bankrupt putting petrol in.  You can watch the needle going down as you drive. :-X

The needle only moves if you let it idle for ages.

If the themostat is buggered then you going to be running very rich!!! as if the choke is always out, so you will be getting appauling mpg.

Get the themostat checked

Be carefull about tightening your filter. Is it a spin off cartridge type or an ally housing with a filter inside? If it's the latter, they only need 15Nm, which is not much more than hand tight. Check the 'O' ring is still intact & in its groove. There are a few here who've had trouble removing the filter housing after some garage ape has swung off the thing to tighten it back up.

Not sure which type I've got.  How would I get access to it as it's a bit awkward on a V6?  :-*
