new owner...couple of issues
« on: 19 February 2008, 00:46:23 »

firstly, hello to overone.

Having recently had to replace my car after it was side swipped by a Porsche Carrera...I opted for an Omega 2.0 GLS auto.

I believe my version has a facelife interior, but older style exterioe (is a W July 2000)...if that it right?

Anyway, onto the issues:

1) cabin blowers...having read around here for  a few days prior to posting, I see that the heaters are a common problems on Omegas.  This one is a little more unusual however.           The rear blowers provide nice warm air, the front passenger blowers provide lukewarm air and the driver and windscreen only blow cold.

I have tried a reset (off and auto pressed in for 5 secs plus) but no change.......any ideas how to do a fix on this myself??

2)  The stereo reception is terrible, and I see no external aerial, so I assume it is wired as part of the rear screen heater wirring?....Any suggestions for a good fix, or best plaec/way to install an external aerial???

3) notice judder on steering wheel at around 60 and tram linning at lower speed...so gonna try the old swap over fronts to rears trick, but more worrying seems as though there was some pulsing under heavy-ish braking....probably the discs???

THanks for your suggestions and please make it so that I do not end up regretting buying the Omega, as I like the space and presence of it.

Hello and welcome, still very new myself but been fixing/breaking cars for ever.  From my own experiences with the Omega I can hopefully shed a little light on two of your problems, as for the cabin heater I think there are a number of threads to search on here from those who know more than me, but under the passenger side kick panel (under glove box) to the right (near G'box tunnel) there is a servo motor that becomes disconnected from its arm and causes a little bother.  I don't think it is that hard to reattach it.

Stereo reception, I had the same. The aeriel is in the HRW but the problem is that the cable fractures internally just beind the stereo headunit itself.  The cure is to cut the old end off and remove an inch or so of the cable ( past the break!) then connect a new connector or if the old one is OK (check continuity with multimeter) just re attach it.

Juder on wheel at 60 says probably rear wheel balance to me. Tramlining is normal and seems to depend on what tyres are fitted and wht condition the tracking/camber and wishbone bushes are in.  Try the balance and alignment first, but if it's not ripping your arms of over the potholes and poor surfaces it's probably tyres.  I changed my Pirelli P7s for Falken 452s (need to up pressure to 32 PSI though to get even wear) and no problem anymore.  Tramlining very minor now.  My aligment is all OK and the car has done 52,000 miles on all the original steering and suspension parts so far.  Pulsing under braking, well many things spring to mind like - tyres so worn the ABS is kicking in, brake discs, wheel bearings, wishbone bushes.  Again go for the least complex and things with biggest effect first - tyres.

Hope this helps.  Just my 2p worth.

hi and welcome to OOF  :y

there is a guide in the maitainence section on the heater blower, you may find a contol rod has popped off and is not providing the correct temp.

stereo, as P mitchell has said.

Tramlining and juddering, could be wishbones, check tyre wear as well, i have had different tyres on my Omega and have noticed varying levels of tramlining, swapping the front and rear is a good starting point though

Pulsing under breaking could be the discs,

the issues you have here are cureable with a little biy of time and logical approach, good luck  :y

Hi & welcome, like P. Mitchell I'm also new here. Re pulsing under heavy-ish braking wouldn't that just be the brake anti-lock mechanism kicking in?

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions guys.

First job for the weekend is the heating system to try and get it so the cabin heats on both passenger and drivers side!

As for the stereo, the reception is actualy fine without the rear screen heater being turned on...so it is obviously the heating element/system that is causing interference....have to check all wires at the weekend too.

Joys of buying cars! ;)
