2.0 Head Gasket - Recomended Parts List
« on: 19 February 2008, 16:36:37 »

Im just doing the head on my 2.0 auto 98, however I was just making a list of what seals/items I need to replace and was wondering If I have missed anything or if there are any parts that a more experienced mechanic may replace???

This is the list of gaskets I have listed so far:

1. Head Gasket
2. Inlet Maniflod Gasket
3. Exhaust Manifold Gasket
4. Downpipe Gasket
5. Rocker Cover Gasket
6. Throttle Body Gasket
7. ICV Gasket
8. Thermostat Housing Gasket
9. Cam Shaft Seals

Other items on my list are:

1. Timing Belt Kit
2. Water Pump
3. Auxilary Drive Belt
4. Plugs
5. Plug Leads
6. 2 x Oil Filters
7. Engine Oil 10/40 ( To be used as a Flush - 100 miles only)
8. Vx Oil 10/40 (To be put in after 100 Miles)
9. Fuel Filter
10. Air Filter
11. Pollen Filter
12. Antifreeze (4 Litres Red)

Think thats everything, but please correct me if Im wrong  :y

Cam cover O rings...plus black sealent for cam cover gasket......head bolts

As an extra tip, see how much Andy C can do a genuine Gm head gasket kit for as it has all the bits you need for the gasket change.

Forgot the seland and O rings should have been in list. Already got half a tube of sealant left and O rings come with rocker gasket.

One thing i completly forgot was stretch bolts (1 set), and I do believe I need to fit new inlet manifold nuts as well.

Who is Andy C???

Do you want to take the exhaust manifold as well? If yes, you need new studs, gasket and nuts.
When the head is off, you can change stem seals as well.

Thanks Dazzler, already half stripped it, but back at work now so will be the weekend before i get anymore done.

Got nearly all the parts except for a couple of seals from vx and my flush oil for after the jobs complete. Will get those sat morning. Hoping if all goes well it may be reassembled by the end of the weekend  ::)

Depends on what we find when I get the head off, will be another week if the head needs skimming or if worse is warped!!  :'(
