Evening all

My omega has juct failed its MOT apparently due to warped brake discs. The dealer reckons that this is a common problem on omegas, although two other garages have said they didn't think it was. Before I fork out the expense of getting them sorted (not that I don't believe the dealer or anything!!) I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem-the car has just reached 40,000 miles.

It's common for cars where folk sit with their foot on the brake
pedal when they come to a stop.

If the discs are warped I would expect vibration and steering
wheel shake when braking.

Buy genuine parts and fit them yourself IAW the following link.

Oh yes!......on Vectra`s also.  

I`ve replaced both front disc rotors (on separate occasions) in the last year,
If left, the heat build-up in the disc (due to the extra friction as the pads try to ride the eccentric disc face) can also cook the front hub bearing lube too!

I`ve been told the auto`s are worse for the warp-thing than the manual gearbox cars as the autos sit with the pads squeezing the hot discs more than the manuals would.

Discs available separately from the hubs (thankfully); so bit of a saving there.
Watch out for a seized caliper as a possible cause of the warping due to heat.....sometimes warped side will "squeak" at low speed (open window to hear) and can be felt as a 'pulse' through the pedal upon low speed-braking.

Not sure a Vx Dealer is the best financial bet for a value-fix though?

According to the folk on here, Omega's chew up non original brake
equipment quite quickly, and it ends up as false economy. Many have
had to rip off their cheapo discs and do the the job again in pretty short
order with original fitment discs.

If Vx parts are to expensive try Mintex discs & pads I put some on a 2.5 auto miggie a while ago and did about 10,000 miles on them before I sold it with no problems, you can always find them on ebay.

If you have an ABS trade card £20 ... you can get a change set of genuine VX front disks & brakes quite cheap .... ( I can't check the price right now the TC web site is down ..  )

Yep, a TC card is the way to go.  Looking at my invoice for June 2006 the front pads and discs from a Vx stealer were £94.  At the same time the sensors needed changing (as they invariably broke!) and they were £18.

Fitting also cost me £70 but they were the original discs and pads from when I bought the car so I got 28k miles out of them.

After all they they warped on me by the time the service was due in Jan 2007 and they were replaced under warranty.

Not only Omega's and Vectra's but Corsa's too! It is a common Vauxhall problem that usually occurs somewhere between 50-75k milies. Juddery brake syndrome starts due to distorted front disks. Brake disks/pads made by Mintex don't tend to suffer from this, but can be a bit squeeky sometimes.

Its not a common vauxhall problem......its standard on cars with disc brakes full stop.....and is VERY dependent on driving habits and maintenance!

in my experience best bet is ate discs and  pads from euro car parts @ 90 quid are even better than oe............

Never had an issue with genuine GM discs (and pads) on any Vauxhall i've owned.
