facelift 2.2 wont start after head gasket change

now then chaps got a problem with my dads facelift 2.2 x regd bought the car with suspect head gasket after doing the usual hbv thermostat housing still losing water and misfireing when warm took head off found gasket gone on number 2 ! so got new gasket set and had head skimmed and rebuilt it now it wont start checked for spark and compression all there can smell fuel so all the bits are there !!! even the eml  light is going out and it was on when running !! any ideas much welcomed !! gona check cam timing in morning but pretty sure its fine cheers mark :y

I think 2.0 and 2.2 will start with either (cam or crank) sensor at fault but not both.

good point, run like a sack of spuds but will start.

Does the engine crank, or just nothing happens on the turn of they?

yes engine turns over no probs just wont go !! going to my dads shortly to check timing and will change cam sensor ! wounlnt it put eml light on cam/crank sensor ??? :(

Different to a V6, will start without the crank sensor, but not if the cam sensor is at fault.

Only if it eventually started, I believe.

If it's a fault that has been introduced since the work was done then there won't be a stored code to read as it's never started IMHO.

right chaps checked timing and spot on ! tryed swoping cam sensor still no go turns over fine but will not fire !!  >:(

Defo got petrol coming through? Are the plugs wet?
