Recently had a friend ask me to look at her 2.0 L. 16V Omega which had developed a sudden misfire, `well down on power and spitting and coughing like a 60 a day smoker.  

I`d checked the forum and Haynes for possibilities....paperclipped, but no fault code showed or even an EML light.....`much scratching of my head followed.

My friend happened to mention that she`d gone over a 'sudden' speed-bump and the rough running had started immediately thereafter.
I then checked thoroughly underneath in case of bent or broken engine-underpinnings but all looked fine.

I eventually had an unusual moment of clarity and removed the plastic sparkplug channel-cover only to find the No2 plug lead had popped up and off the sparkplug-top.....`can only think it was the impact of the speed-bump.
`Car ran perfectly after replacing the lead on the plug......all the leads were tightly fitting when I rechecked.

BIG lesson learned not to ignore the 'obvious' basic-things before thinking of 'complicated'  causes/fixes.

Had the same sort of thing happen last summer. Banding up the A11 in the Manta giving her a bit of a run, running fine at about, well a bit above the national limit, and just started to lose power, pulled over had a look and on of the leads had popped of the cap.

The spring loaded ones on my old 2.0 8V Cav used to come loose as well.
