Air Con Tap !
« on: 28 February 2008, 18:57:24 »

I lost my aircon, yes, careless I know, SO had it regassed.

When they unplugged the machinery one of the valves in-line with the air con pipes started hissing, leaking basically.

The air con chaps said they've never known a valve to leak so are investigating. Meanwhile, can anyone comment on this and is it easy to replace said valve....looks very much like a tyre valve from what I can see.

I would say you have to change the pipe that has the valve in it.
Did they excercise the valve a few times to try and make it reseat???

Er.. :-? Its one of the most common problems when re-gassing. They cant be very experienced.

If its just the rubber seal in the valve that has dried up then refitting the service couplers a few times will fix it. Otherwise it needs a new valve core, just like a tyre valve but special seals etc. There is a tool which allows you to replace the core without losing refrigerant....an experienced aircon outfit would have one and a full selection of valve cores.
BTW the plastic caps must be refitted, these provide the long-term refrigerant seal, not the valve cores.

Interesting....One of the taps hasn't had a cap since I purchased the car....best I get one. I assume replacing the valve won't exactly cost an arm and a leg...so might as well go down that route also.
