Handbrake
« on: 29 February 2008, 15:14:30 »

I plan to service my handbrake tomorrow in prep for the MOT - it holds the car, but comes up WAY to high.

I have read the Maint. guide by Mark which is great, but I have a couple of further questions...

How do you actually remove and refit the handbrake shoes? I know a spring(s) is involved, but that's about it.

Can you see if they are very worn without taking them out?

Will I just get away with adjusting the cable if it's slack or is that a bodge?

The brake holds fine - I just know the travel is way to high for the MOT next week...

There is one...

I just need to clarify a couple of additional bits before I tackle it :y

I'm unclear about how the shoes go in and out mainly, inc the springs..  and where the pivot thingy is, that's all :y

I've had this set up on my cars for the best part of 15 years & I haven't ever had a disc/drum off to look!  :-?

Maybe worth taking a picture before you take anything off put some marks on the bits so if you do take anything off you can glance at the picture and make sure you are putting it back the same way  :y
