flat battery,, strange things happening
« on: 01 March 2008, 17:32:06 »

hiya,
went to start my V6 yesterday and the battery was flat,,, its a brand new battery as well,, i jumped it off my other car and it started,, took it off to charge,, waiting for friend to return my charger!!
put the flat battery back on with the view to let the alternator charge it and connected it to my other car to jump it when i heard a motor running down at the front of the engine bay near o/s wheel,,, tried to start the car but it just wasnt strong enough to spin quickly ,, then the back of the car rose up,,
wasa the motor running a pump for the rear suspension or could it be a circulater for the water??? but as said it was running without turning the key.
would welcome your thoughts on this,,,, while i wait for my charger

The pump is the self leveling suspension pump.

The key thing to do first it to confirm that the alternator is charging so get the engine running, rev it to about 3000rpm and measure the battery voltage....should be 14+ volts.

thanks for confirming its the leveling pump,,, i did a quick test yesterday on the alternater,,, i got 13v with it ticking over,, realy thought it should of been 14,, but maybe the pump was draining it abit,, when get it started i`ll check it again,
should the pump be running while the key is out?? maybe thats what flaterned the battery?????

No it shouldn't be!

Check relay K19....its a small to the left of the diag connector in the cabin fuse box.

I assume the ignition switch is turning off ok?
