Tech 2 tester... suitability??
« on: 29 February 2008, 21:40:43 »

Yo gang..
Have a 1996 (N) reg Ommee, 2.5TD estate. Have the chance to buy a RS232 Tech2 OBDII Compliant tester.

Wondered if it was any use for my motor, have heard differing replies regarding 'OBDII compliance' and the model year of the vehicle.

I have a neat laptop complete with rs232 port, and wouldn't mind a nice tech2 IF it was usable on my  Omee.

Any help would be apprciated guys..Thanks in advance!! :y :y

Trouble is Tech2 has come to mean a few different devices.

The real Tech2 is borderline reading 96 TD engine, depending on whether its a U25TD or X25TD.

Not tested the cheapo.

Neither of these are proper OBDII readers, but then the 96 TD is not OBDII compliant anyway.

To further complicate matters, every man and his dog are starting to call their devices Tech2s, adding more complication.

Cheers, so I presume that it'snot much point in buying one if it won't do anything useful??
Shame, as it seemed like a good buy, for the money. :-[
