Drive By Wire

Instead of a throttle cable, the accelerator has an eletronic sensor which sends a signal, via the ECU to drive  motor on the throttle to the required position.

So accelerator pedal position is compared to throttle position and adjusted electronically.

Simple explanation .. its quite complicated in reality

Drive By Wire

Throttle butterflies are opened by an electronic 'motor', the position of which is read by two throtte position sensors I believe.
