oppinions please, slight misfire
« on: 29 February 2008, 19:12:03 »

Drove to Loughborough today and had problem with misfire while accelerating, cruising ok.

On the way back seemed to be better, happening mainly at 50mph, but not always.  Also noticed when car idles, revs at 600, it will drop to 400 then straight back upto 600. (misfires)

(mis fire not as bad as the other day when one of the leads had come off the dis pack  ;D)

noticed someone recently posted similar problem, mis-fire under load, but tickover ok.

ICV cleaned , plugs changed, 2 days ago

could it be lead related   :-/

Noooooooooo!!!!!  I'm scared   ;D

I have a set of leads. I'll change them first, see if it improves.  If it doesn't I suppose I'll have to nip to boots for lots of plasters ;D

Missfire under load is often the HT leads. Check they're all seated correctly first.

If it helps, I have been chasing down a similar problem. I changed the plugs and leads in the week which took me most of the day!) and found the leads were original 1999 manufacture so I thought I must be onto something. Sadly I was not.

So I then moved on to the dis pack. At the local Vx dealer I learned it could be one of two - 3010 at £130 + VAT or 3017 at £146 +VAT less 12.5% discount (Autobahnstormers Club Card). The difference is only the connector but you can't tell which it is until you start stripping stuff out. So then I tried CES which had the 3010 version in stock. After a bit of haggling I got it for £68 + VAT. It is the same Bosch unit as Vx would have sold me. I did not know this until today but most of the stuff CES sell is in fact OEM.

Next I started stripping things down to get to the old Dis pack out. How anybody ever manges to do this without removing the wiper motor, plenum and a range of clever tools and in just 1.2 hours I do not know. I struggled with mine but finally got it out after about 3 hours effort. And you guessed it - wrong Dis pack. Dis pack 3017 is much rarer and is twice the price. So now my car is in bits waiting for the new Dis pack.    >:(

Time for an update.

replaced the plug leads yesterday and I'm pleased to say all seems well now, no misfire and takes off like a scolded cat when you floor the trottle. I'm a happy bunny.  :)

had a good look at the old leads, and I have come to the conclusion that they may never have been changed before, lead six was ridiculously short.  Have to confess to a 'blonde moment' didn't check the connector on the dis pak while I had the oppoutunity, DOH !

I found access a lot easier with the wiper mechanism out of the way, and I didn't need any plasters!  ;D
