Which Dis Pack?
« on: 03 March 2008, 10:20:55 »

Horrendous misfire at the moment on '97 mini facelift 2.5 auto. Pulled all the plugs at the weekend, no oil in plug wells. removed plugs and it looks like the 2-4-6 bank is not firing properly.

Got new plugs to go in, leads look alright (plugs & leads done less than 7k ago) so I am suspecting dispack given up. Probably something to do with the water leak roulnd the oil cooler plate (scheduled to sort out very soon), so I am woundering if anyone knows what dis-pack I have as there are 3? types? or is the only way for me to pull it before getting one? I wuld prefer to do it in one go instead of having to stop & wait for the parts to arrive!

Any help????

There are three types of DIS pack

1) Early version mounted vertical and only fitted until about 1996

2) Later version, mounted horizontaly with a rectangular plug

3) Later version, mounted horizontaly with an oval plug

So, you need to pop the scuttle off and have a look at the orientation and the connector shape.

yours will be the one mounted horizontally - to find out which plug is on it just look at the plugs at the front of the engine i.e knock sensors - air mass meter - if they are the oval type then your dis pak will be to as they changed all the sensor plugs at the same time.

Cheers Geff & all, it is def the oval one. Now I just have to work out how to get the damn thing out and the other one back in. Space looks to be at a premium back there, even with the plenum and scuttle off!

Its not so bad.....

With the plenum on I use a flexi screwdriver with the correct torx bit in the end to remove the securing bolts and then feed it through teh abck of teh engien bay.

With the plenum off access is MUCH easier and a standard ratchet and extension can be used.

Well day off friday so we shall see how it goes. Hopefully it should sort the problem. Can't see what else it could be as no EML on crank sensor changed etc. Looking forward to haveing a car that actually goes again! Fed up of driving an under powered Laguna.
