Door mirror
« on: 03 March 2008, 17:12:00 »

Some may have read in General Chat about my misfortune with a lorry this morning but I need to ask a couple of questions. It looks like I'm going to need a complete new drivers door mirror, but do VX supply the covers already painted or do they have to be sprayed? It's unlikely I'm going to find one on e-bay or the like thats the correct colour. Also, what sort of cost am I looking at for a complete new unit?

With the wing mirror being a relatively small part to paint it should be possible to get a decent finish with airosols providing the colour is available.

I think VX only supply unpainted,if you want a second hand one
go on ebay click cars-spares-vauxhall-omega,find a seller called las-jacarandas there should be a phone number on the listing give them a ring I would be very suprised if they haven't got one you can paint.

Yip, I've had to replace my door mirror on a facelift. VX quoted £210 excl VAT for the frame (metal parts of the door mirror). Another £50 for the bits of primed plastic. Unsure how much the black plastic part was that goes around the mirror. But your looking at around the £300 mark for a complete wing mirror. Not including £50 to get vx to paint your primed plastic bits.

So its a lot of money. It took me more than a month to get a facelift one from ebay, guy took £75 not including postage and I still had to buy a new plastic painted cover (ebay one was broken and scratched to buggery).

For me it cost around £180 to pay for some drunk student t**t to go on a door mirror kicking night out.

You also need to get one that matches your trim level. The Elite trim has memory seats and heated door mirror, think there is 4 different types for facelifts.

My german friend got a quote from opel who said it would cost £150 in total for a complete door mirror. Looks like we're getting ripped off in the UK   >:( Not surprised

Around £300 for the lot, over £100 they said for the black plastic (mistake I think), around high £20s for the cowling, £50 for the mirror.

ME

Halfrauds stick on £7 (on surviving back plate)

Cowling, ABS glue, drill & stitch - then fill

Black plastic bit, glued back together and NMNs and silicon sealered on

So does the motor work?

S/H ones go for a fortune

Looking at some of the costs mentioned in some of the reply's this looks like my best bet. I know a bloke in my pub thay has a bodyshop so might have a word about getting a second hand or primed one sprayed to the correct colour.

Thanks Wayne, I'll drop him a PM.

Having had a chance to inspect all properly in daylight, I've managed to get the main housing back on so I might get away with just a new glass and plastic trim surround. Just got to check the electrics.

Glass is £50 from VX or under a tenner from Halfords but is not a stock item, HF is a stick on
