Some years ago I had a hot rubbery smell and an odd knock/rattle.

It turned out to be a seized cam belt idler bearing.

Worth investigating quickly.

What tyres do you have? I used to get that hot rubber smell regularly when I had Cooper tyres fitted.

It could be a simple one given the recent "breezy" weather.  Plastic bag welded onto the exhaust?  You don't smell it whilst driving because the fumes obviously blow away but when you stop... Have a look underneath.  Smells horrible and can take a long time to burn away.  Might be worth peeling away any loose stuff remaining.

Cheers,

Martin

The only burning rubber smell I've ever come across on my Omega was when the aux belt tensioner collapsed

I had one of these go just the same... but sadly no smell, no noise, no warning...  just shredded the aux belt!!!

Some of you will remember the post as it wrapped itself around the cam belt causing it to slip 4.5 teeth and I escaped with the skin of my teeth!! Excuse the pun  ;D

Might pay you to check??   ;)

Blimey1 what caused the tensioner to collapse, seized bearing? does the aux belt run the waterpump on the V6?
Cheers

Check your tyres for wear on the inside edge.

Mine failed its MOT on front tyres because the inside edge was scrubbed to the canvass.

I had no idea as the other 90% of the tread was substantial (only 10k miles done on them  >:()

I used to smell the same burning rubber smell occasionally but got used to it.  After the MOT I put 2+2 together.  :y

I concur with RolandL, had the same thing happen to my Omega last week. Smelt a very strange smell after I had parked up and got out. On closer inspection I spotted 20% of the aux belt was missing and dangling about.

Garage fixed it very swiftly for me (still under warranty) and now the smell has dissappeared.

I had a rubbery smell (and visible smoke). It turned out to be the cam cover gasket (common problem). Funny it smelt more like burning rubber than oil...

The aux belt is looking worn and cracked... it may be slipping, I will change it at the weekend me thinks.  ::)
