I have recently acquired a 1995 Omega 2.0 16v.  I am having a couple of problems with her.
1st off the drivers door will lock with the key but not unlock, 2ndly i need to jiggle the key in the ignition to get er to start.
Could anyone suggest anything to help solve these problems.

Are the door locks a bit sticky?  Will it open ok with the key fob?  If it's a sticky solenoid then here is a link on how to fix it but the fact that you have to jiggle the key to start the ignition as well makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the key itself.

sounds like your key is worn bud !! try a bit lube in key holes mite help !!

I have 2 keys and they are both the same, they both work without a problem in the passenger door.  Unfortunatly I didn't get the key fob with the car so I cant test that.  
When I turn the key in the drivers door I can see the button moving slightly but no joy.  It always lock it 1s try.
When starting the car its as if the keys going too far into the cylinder.
I will point out that this car appears to have had a hard life, a few scrapes and dents,  cracked grille and headlight surround, passenger electric window didn't work, and the interior was disgusing.  There was enough dog hair in it to create a new dog.  I think the problem is general wear and tear but I'm unsure how to procede.
The cars starting to look a bit better after a full professional valet, but even they couldn't shift all the dog hair .
I think I'm gonna start looking for a better interior but in the mean time I'm going to have to settle for seat covers.

Ignition lock barrels do wear, when bad it can be hard to turn the key.

Door lock linkage may need lubricating. Does the driver's door lock drive the locking motors when turned?

Yeah, the drivers door locks all 4 doors and the boot, I'll try some WD40 in it in the morning, I'll let you know how it goes.  
Does it look like I'm needing a new cylinder?

New cylinder? - sounds like it to me.  Maybe one for the ignition as well (though they tend to call them barrels - no idea why they're not also cylinders).

P.S. Go on - tell us how many miles she's done - that might help diagnose the likely cause - I'm guessing around 200k ?
