power surges?

Hi,
Wondering if any of you can help. I've got a mate who's got a facelift 2.0lt auto and he keeps getting power surges, both on idle and under load. Says it always corrects itself but is getting more regular. Any ideas?

by power surges, I presume he means the revs go up on their own, rather than fuses keep going up like fireworks..?

Hi,
Yeah, sorry, its the revs that jump up. I've had similar problems on a previous car of my own in the past but I think that was a timing belt issue and can only remember it happening on idle.

needs to clean idle control valve and breather system matey !! check the mantenice guides !! :y
