How do you reset Fault Codes
« on: 24 March 2008, 11:51:24 »

Hi, thanks for all the info in how to read fault codes using paper clip. Read the codes and got 144  145  & 19.
How do I know when these were set?
Can I reset the codes and do a check a few days leter to see if they come back on.

Thanks for any help.

Turn the ignition key till alle the lights on the dash goes on, and then off. Do this 25-30 times, and the codes are erased.

I also read here that you can disconnect the batteri and that will erase, but I haven't tried that:)

Tried disconnecting the battery . Left it for 10 mins, re connected and then tried paperclip test without starting engine.  Fault codes still the same?

Alas, not correct.

Some codes are cleared by 20 clean starts (ie, engine starts, and runs for a while without error).  Some aren't, such as the immobiliser ones.  Some are cleared immediately on resolution, this normally includes crank sensor ones.

A code reader is only way of clearing truely, as some codes remain, even though not flashed out.

Dont worry about the immobiliser 2 (14x), but sort the crank sensor one (19) immediately!

Faulft Code 19 is described as Incorrect RPMSignal,  is that the same as Crank Sensor,?
If so what does it signify and what do I do about it?

Cheers

Yes.

It signifies that it will soon let you down, usually at the most inconvenient time possible (mine went halfway down France), and its about the only sensor that will mean your V6 goes home on a tow truck.

Solution, replace it.  £40 for plastic type, £70 for metal type (very approx prices from dealer)
