More snags.....
« on: 25 March 2008, 17:15:19 »

Hubby has just driven to leatherhead in london. to tell me that the car has a puddle under the motor the size of a foot ball of ATF and when he went to start the motor the eml came on along with the traffic master.

He says shes running ok.
The eml i havent a clue whats going on.....
The gearbox is dripping from where the bell housing attaches to the car. i have checked the breather an topped it up twice now but it still leaks. someone said the torque converter seal???? how easy is this job to do?????

i cant do the paperclip test until he gets the car back to me on friday.

i could get him to call out the rac on friday before he leaves to check the motor over??????

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
i am so close to driving the car into a brick wall
 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( i cant take anymore stress. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( i just wish it would give me a break!

Oh, dear. Sounds like all is not well with the auto box seals. Sounds like it needs to come off for a look at least. :(

Not sure why it would get an EML though. Probably not related, I'd say, unless it's the autobox telling the engine to go easy.

Could always attack the box the weekend after next I guess. :-/

That seems to be the pressing issue at the moment.

:-/ :-/ :-/your right i need to do whats at the top of the list and this seems to be the most important issue. James says we will have a look at it but not sure about taking it off yet.

i still have the old box. but hubby stood it on its end and drained it. so i dont know whether the pump would be anygood if we were to find out thats what it is..

Best buy some more ATF then. :(

Still worried about the EML and Jase driving the car back on friday. its just weird how the traffic master now comes on when you turn the car over and how the light only came on after he finished the journey when he went to move the car.

i am worried that i might have knocked a connection or something on sunday pm. i took her for a spin afterwards to and it was fine. :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Hubby paper clip it thought about askin him but he sounded gone out when i even mentioned the thought of it. its my part of ship!!!

i tld him to call out the rac if hes not happy with it  he said hes going to get it hometo me one way or another.
i did think of askin one of the members who lives close to leatherhead if they would go and have a look for me. but their is no one i can see close enough and it is a lot to ask as it would have to be of an evening.

we dont use the TM. i wonder what could be problematic on start up then????

oh well nothin i can do until i get the car back. be it driven back or towed back!

TM lady is a PITA ... on the old miggy she used to pop up every so often to tell me "subscription expired" .. hit the TM button about 10 times and it stops it for about 2 months .. no idea why.

I eventually removed her when I had to take the radio out for other reasons.. unplugged adaptor, snipped the wires .. and never heard from her again !!   :)

If you have RAC then call them out .. you've paid for it and it's not worth the risk of

a) losing ALL the ATF and wrecking the gearbox

b) the EML being an indication of something totally different that if not fixed could get very expensive.

I wouldn't take the risk...

Won't the RAC just want to tow it to their nearest approved (expensive) garage? That's what they tried to do to me recently on my PUG 306 when the turbo spilled its guts.

I agree with what you're saying entirely about the risk and the value of the RAC, but Marie's pretty capable and will probably be able to fix this if able to get her grubby little mitts on it.

Oh, and the TM lady in my dash makes her presence known to me about once a month too. I just tell her to shut-up. :y

If you have the RAC equivalent of AA Relay then YOU choose where to be taken, garage, home or destination.

Relay can take a while depending where you are and where you want to be .. but it works ..

If the box has lost a fair amount of fluid then I would guess driving it will probably destroy it. If it doesn't get recovered (Needs to be on a transporter or have the prop disconnected) and is driven I think you'd be looking at putting another box in completely  :(

Don't forget a V small amount of ATF can spread a long way on the floor...

tunnie lost half a litre, and it looked like it was everywhere!

We'll check it out weekend after next, but don't worry about taking the box off alone, I've already said I'll lend a hand if we can get a date that fits in...

Very true, I just re read the first post and it doesn't sound like a large amount, especially bearing in mind that the fluid would have been hot so presumably 'thinner' when the car finished its journey.
