Engine running rough
« on: 24 March 2008, 16:31:46 »

Hi,
Have just come back from day out.  The problem that I originally had of engine juddery on idle after a very long journey, (200 miles or more) has now developed into juddery running all the time and EML has now come on and stayed on.

Engine starts up fine when cold, and idles OK, but when moving off you can feel car juddering. and when warmed up is juddery on idle but doesn't stall.

Can't paper clip this model, needs codes reading.

From the symptoms, can anyone give calculated guess on problem ?

Codes are key to this diag....I suspect it will be a miss fire code due to a failing coil pack.

Hi All,
Many thanks for the educated guesses to point me to the HT side of things.
Found that the insulator nose on the feed to the centre plug had hairline cracks, and swelling of bakelite around the iron core assembly for the front plug.

Took a chance this was the problem, and ordered new coil pack yesterday, it came this morning and now fitted. Car is back to it's old lovely running self again.

Just hope the Geniscan GS 500 MaxiScan I have ordered comes soon so I can turn off the EML light. It'l be interesting to see what codes have been thrown up while engine was running rough.

Incidently, the coil pack from VSC was £55.00 cheaper than quote from Vx dealer, and guaranteed next day delivery instead of Thursday from Vx.

Thanks again for the help.
