occasional burning oil smell once in a while, engine misfiring slightly, small amount of smoke coming up from under the bonnet today...

All needs sorting properly when I get home from holiday, but will changing the leads/plugs over the side thats leaking sort out the engine misfire in the short term (assuming the cover gaskets are changed soon)

Sounds like Cam Covers mate, sometimes it may leak from the back and you cant actually see the leak but when you turn off the car you here it "Hiss" when oil drops onto the exhaust..
Not an expensive job if you do it yourself around £60 for both sides

Pretty sure I'm up for the task...wondering though if in the mean time changing the spark plugs/leads for known good ones would help/eliminate the misfire?? Assuming its not dispack of course lol Or would the oil in the wells simply reproduce the problem almost instantly??

you will need to get old oil out of plug wells chris or fault will be back pretty soon !! use a turkey baster or syringe to get most of it out then kitchen roll pushed down with a small screwdriver !!

It might, not worth possibly wasting 60-100 quid on spark leads unless your misfire is REALLY bad then I would suggest it might be DIS pack

Not wasting any money Gaffers, just taking the parts off one of the scrappers I have Nothing lost if it doesnt solve the problem...i have a spare dispack too if need be so cost wise just the cam cover gaskets and o rings...

The misfire is more obvious at lower revvs across the entire gear range, especially under heavy load...in sports mode can really boot it and it will accelerate really well, cruises at lower speeds pretty well until it hits 3rd and drops to 2000 revvs when it struggles to achieve its proper power...also average fuel consumption is way down, 20mpg even on motorway or more like 16mpg in town...

just had my rocker gaskets done,
they were dripping on the exhaust manifold heat sheilds and making alot of smoke,
but i had a missfire after the plug holes were dried out,
ive found out since, that oil is an insulator so it helps the contact of the plugs and leads,
strange but true...
