RPM needle stuck at 7,000 RPM???
« on: 29 March 2008, 01:18:24 »

Since my previous post about this issue, I am adding the following info in case someone knows what the hell is going on?

The RPM needles is presently stuck at 7,000 RPM.
Not because that's where it got to through really hard driving, it just happened.

As it stands, with the ignition off, the needle stays at 7,000 RPM. When the ignition is on, the needle stays where it is and only twitches slightly between 6,500 - 7,000 RPM as the auto box changes gear and will only move a few millimetres as the box changes up through the gears but as I said before the needle will not fall below 6,500 RPM.

On a previous post reply, I was advised that it could be a failed dash, or the stepper motor for this dial. However, I am still unsure what course of action I should take (most cost effective route) in order to confirm diagnosis, or even if there is something relatively simple that I could do myself to rectify this issue.

The last thing I want to do (as most of us) is to be forced to taking the car to the main dealer and being ripped off a few hundred quid for nothing else than to be told it does'nt work!

I have had this before, mainly by vauxhall dealers, you take the car in, they charge you an instant £50.00 + VAT before they have even looked at your car! So, as you can imagine, this is the last thing I want to do.

If anyone has come across this kind of fault, or has any possible solutions that either myself, or a local independant garage can work their magic, I would be really grateful for your help!!

Kind regards,

Money Spinner.

Keep your eye out on eBay for a compatible dash board? They often go fairly cheap, and if it doesn't do anything your old one does, re-list it and get yer money back!
