Do I delete trouble codes ?
« on: 29 March 2008, 17:27:45 »

Hi All,
I had a problem with rough running, traced to a faulty coil pack bank 1-3-5 All fixed now and car running great, and after about 1 hrs use, and about 4 starts the EML lamp went out.

The GS500 MaxScan I ordered arrived this morning, so I couldn't wait to try it.
Not to be surprised at, it says there is 1 DTC code stored, "Misfire No 1"   Also says no pending codes.

I was going to use the delete codes facility, but in true computer fashion it asks 'Are you sure?' and if I say yes, it warns that deleting codes may also delete manufacturer specific codes, seek technical advice before deleting' so I didn't do anything.

As the EML light is now off, and car running perfectly OK, will the stored code eventuall clear itself ?, if not can I delete it without causing any problem ? or as EML light is now off, should I not even worry about messing with it ?

Roger

You can safely delete the trouble code(s).

If no more faults then the codes should self clear after quite a few good starts ;)

Sorry, just looked at the year of your car, you will have to clear them yourself :-[

Yeah older models cleared themselves, my 99 mini facelift has, now clear of codes after fixing slight air leak from airbox breather/plenum join...just need to sort out remaining rough running, but at least the codes have gone :)

Yes, use delete option.  Being a generic OBDII reader, it may not be able to show manufacturer specific codes, hence the warning that possibly not all codes have been shown.
