« on: 08 April 2008, 17:02:02 »

ok today i changed my 01 3.0 cambelk kit genuine vx got it all done as the omega forums excellent dvd said but when i started my engine it sounded to be knocking only very slightly and after 30 seconds it seems to have cleared but i imagine it still sound cammey but is running ok and seems to drive ok with no loss of power, if i managed to get the timming slightly wrong would this explain the noise but then again why did it disapear after 30 seconds i timmed the car up with the correct kit and double checked the hole thing before puting back together but the car sounds difererent thats right my belt had no markings so i fitted it as beat i could  as the dvd did not explain this  any help much appreciated :(

Did you torque the pullies up after fitting the aux belt?  Mentioned but not seen on the DVD.

After doing the cambelt the cam followers can be a bit tappety for a few minutes. The oil gets pumped out of them when you manually turn the engine over.

If in doubt, strip down again, and just recheck timing :)

Hi,
I think everyone is on tenterhooks when they start up after doing this job, and any little thing is a worry.

If the noise dissapeared as you said, I am pretty sure it just needed a while to get oil back into adjusters.

Although it's a pain, as it is first one you have done you need the peace of mind it's a good job.
If you can't get rid of that niggling doubt, then check it again. Then you'll be happy.
