1998 2.5 tourer petrol heater works if somwhat slow but cant change it from screen.. so no footwell no in ya face etc just screen also the aircon switch by autobox does nothing and the one in center of dash just lights up dont give out cold ..... So are the heater dials hard wired ie fused  and is this same fuse that does air con...or air the dials cable controlled

Snowflake switch by the gear selector is the snow/ice setting for the gearbox nothing to do with aircon.
When your aircon switch lights up does the idle speed increase, if not your aircon ain't working and needs looking at by an aircon expert.
Heater controls are powered by engine vacuum so you probably have a pipe disconnected/leaking somewhere and likely an air leak.
Can you hear a hissing in the car when its running?

Haynes do one, try ebay its not perfect but better than nothing and you can always ask on here for the best advice too.
