Exact symptoms i had when i had water in the gearbox.

once it had cooled the gearbox worked ok again.
you might be lucky and find that the oil level is incorrect and the box has too much oil in it.

i would check the following:
1. radiator connections to cool the gearbox oil, ensure they are not leakin.
2. gearbox breather is hi up underthe bonnet.
3. condition of the oil.

i would do a complete gearbox oil change. if you find waterin your gearbox oil. its bad news as the water distroys the gaskets within the gearbox.

Sorry for the bad news but if you do have water in the box you might have to look at replacing the gearbox. worst case.

You will need a ratchet and a 13mm socket to undo the filler plug it might be a bit stiff if it has not been off before.

the copper washer will ether need replacing or heating. i have replaced mine they are about 50p from vx.

i tend to use a litre bottle to top up and top the lltr bottle up as required. makes life easyer to record how much oil you have put in it.

i have got topping up the box down to a "t" i dont even jack the car up anymore ( i can side my skinny arse under the car with out it) ;D ;D i just find a level spot somewhere and park the car on it.

i have had a similar problem recently :'(, and the garage said the box was shafted! After being told that a recon box would set be back £1500, I managed to pick up a 2nd hand box for less than £100 and now there is no problem 8-)
