hi anybody know of a good independent  garage or mechanic in the bury st edmunds area,that nows what they are doing with the tec two equipment , i have done paper clip test fault 13  /o2 open circuit  1,
what does the 1 stand for ? .    It seems this could mean many things ,leaking exhaust,broken lamdar sensor ,broken heater etc or have i got this wrong . ps i have cleaned breathers /hoses,throttle body\  cleaned idler valve,( tried blanking of egr valve made it worse ran like a pig)still revs going up and down like a yo yo mainly does this when engine has warmed up .any other suggestions apart from torch it, thanks

are you sure the code isn't 131? I think that is EGR if it is.......
Not sure there is a code 1 :-?

i think the lowest number code is 12 which is the one to show the checking procedure is starting/finishing. :-/

I dont think i have made myself very clear the fault code is   13    and when you read what this means it states 02 open circuit 1

Circuit 1 probably relates to bank 1, If the circuit is open then I assume it isn't receiving any signal from the O2 sensor for bank 1 at all.

I would start by checking the wiring from the sensor back.

i think that is the bank of cylinders on the drivers side,so i reckon its lambda sensor problem on that side.i believe that andy c ,a member of the forum is parts manager at vx b.st.e (iirc)he may be worth contacting as he seems to know his stuff and is helpful to forum members.

The fault code is telling you that there's a problem with the lambda sensor on the driver's side of the car.

The lambda sensor is bolted into the exhaust just below where the driver's feet are.

Check the wiring to the sensor.

The sensors do fail and are about £50 to replace. Easy to change if they come out OK - they can be tight so make sure your spanner fits well.

You can get a phantom fault code if say your exhaust manifold is leaking air into the exhaust - makes the engine management think the sensor's failed - but that's usually a "low" fault code not an "open circuit".

So first step check the wiring and connector on the side of the gearbox. Step 2 replace the sensor.
