Need To Disable A Miggy Elite.
« on: 26 April 2008, 01:36:33 »

Is there a simple way to disble a Miggy Elite.

I need to park one up by the way of help from a buddy and may be asked to leave the keys.

My problem here is there then become the temptation for a little play and may the odd drive arround.

It is simply being parked up whilst I sort my current car for sale and then once sold change the insurance over and enjoy my new car.

I know there are some major fuses on the mig and was wondering if one of them could be pulled under the bonnet maybe that would stop the car being started for example.

My current position is that I cannot park my new car at home and rather than sorn either of the cars I might as well keep the GLS on the road till sold and then swap all the legal stuff to the ELite.

TIA for any help.

If you want to pull fuses, the main system ones (six) are in a box above and alongside the battery on the front right hand side of the engine (looking from front).  This should stop the car going anywhere I believe!

However, forgetting this extreme measure (so hurtful to the poor car ;D)  if you have full comprehensive insurance then (check it with your insurance companyfirst of course!) you usually have 14 days free cover for your old car after swapping the insurance to the new.  So if you can get rid of the old car within 14 days you can still drive (and enjoy :y) your new car for no extra cost. I assume both cars are fully taxed so no extra costs there either!

I hope that I have understood your problem correctly ; couldn't quite fathom if the Elite is going to be your new car or not.   Anyway hope this helps!:y

I'm new round here, so excuse me if I am stating the blindingly obvious.

If you take the battery out, you lose the central locking.  I suppose you could manually lock all the passenger doors and the boot, then use the driver's door key.  When I had a flat battery, though, the mechanical lock wouldn't open the car - I had to call the AA and it took them 30 minutes to get in.

And when you come to start it all up again, you've got to put the codes in for the radio and CD.

Pity you can't just remove the distributor arm  :)

I'm not sure I follow this one; what's the point of leaving your keys if the car is going to be meade undrivable anyway? :-/

If you're going to the the lengths to make it undrivable, there s no practical point in leaving the keys; so just don't leave them and rely on the in-built disabling mechanism of the car when deadlocked.

Ultimately if you do have concerns about where you're planning on leaving it, then find somewhere that you trust more.

Just a thought; have a look on the map and see if you can find a trustworthy OOF member nearby who may be willing to accomodate your car for a short while.

i may have got the wrong end of the stick here. am i right in thinking skruntie is concerned that he might go outside and get in his car and drive it off uninsured? if you really dont think you can refrain from driving it why dont you put off delivery? or let the tyres down? or just not drive it!!

I always remove the fuel pump relay when I leave my Nova so no one can steal the car.

Nice one (or 3)

take out the starter relay or fule pump relay

Disconnect crank sensor

I just wanted a quick simple disablement to stop them nipping out and about in the car because temptation gets the better of them, but if put on the spot to leave the keys in case of emergency then I would have felt awkward doing that, but anyways, thats all my problem.

Can/has anyone got any pics of how to/where to look regards the crank sensor, fuel relay, starter fuse.

Also I will look into the insurance situation, hadnt realise some companys do that.

Many thnaks everyone   :y

Why dont you just take the immoblisor chip out the key......specially if you have two keys.....drive the omega there with the working key.....keep it and give him the key with the chip missing....Its not gonna start with the 'tampered' key  :y

Dead easy to do as well.......just pop the key apart.....the chip you are looking for is a black block slotted into a plastic slot near the blade  :y
