AARRGGHH bloody sunroof!!
« on: 29 April 2008, 22:07:03 »

sunroofs really starting to rip ma knitting now.
Its got a mind of its own, opens(tilts) & closes at will. When I do want to tilt it, it only tilts open about an inch.

I greased the runners today, made no difference.
So I removed the motor, stripped it, cleaned & regreased it. made no difference.
I've reset it also, but to close it, I need to put the dial halfway between the closed symbol( pointing to the front of the car) & the tilt one( towards the drivers door) but I don't think the reset has worked either

Any ideas??

If it operates on its own then this sounds like the control box may have developed a fault.  If so it will need a replacement (DON'T go to Vx; they will want to sell you the box AND motor together for £500+ :'().

The sunroof motor & gubins that controls the anti-trap & positioning are all in the one box, I had an Omega sunroof motor in my Senator, there isn't another box of electrickery. As Marks says there's a brown-ish coloured disc just behind the control switch inside the casing, I don't know about getting dirty but, if when you're fitting one of these motors to your Senator & lose the disc as you're removing the motor from the scrap car, then your sunroof won't work ..... apparently!  ::)  :y  :y

In my facelift 2.5 CDX there is a separate box as at the moment one is being obtained for my car under warranty, with the dealer concerned having to aquire the motor in the same package although I do not require it. ;)

Of course if there is a disc involved no doubt these can become dirty and require cleaning, but do not rule out the control box! :y

Mmmm? Only being Joe Bloggs I don't have a copy of EPC to look at the parts but, pulling the wool & eyes springs to mind. I can't see a preface lift's sunroof motor being any different from a face lift's.

Well all I can say is the motor in mine is still in place but the faulty control box, and dial control, is now missing awaiting its replacement! :y   If the motor and control box were all one the motor would not be still there, the big space where the control box would be filled and the dial would not be missing! ;)

How the pre-facelift is set up or not I do not know, but that is the situation with my facelift CDX!  Indeed when the warranty work has replaced the control box I will end up with a spare sun roof motor as Vx only sell the TWO parts as one package for £500+. :y

I've had a peruse of the EPC and as far as I can see .. the sun roof is a "Tudor Webasto" unit ...

The "control unit and motor assembly" (original part number 90459138 no longer used, present part number 90565382) LOOKS to be in two parts, but is only sold as a single integrated unit.

This applies to all ELECTRIC sun roofs, regardless of model .. :)

This confirms what I have been told by the dealer AND seen with my own eyes :y
