You wont be able to read the tag.....the only sure fire way is t pop the back cover off.

Unless its a plod, chances are its not an LSD.

I have been wondering about this with my one. I seem to recall from many moons ago the vehicle options plate has a series of numbers stamped into it regarding such things. Not entirely sure if an lsd was an option or derivative related item. Anyone with access to the Parts computer should be able to check this

If you have a Haynes Manuel there is a section explaining the LSD codes.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Jacking up the car with both rear wheels off the ground and the gear box in Nuetral, then if memory serves me correct then you spin one wheel on a standard diff and the other wheel spins in the opsite direction.

Would they not spin the same direction with an LSD fitted?

That's the way to check it.....LSD both wheels revolve the same way. :y

Hooligans method.

if you have the space...and seeming as its a manual.... hold the brakes just enough to stop it edging forward with your right toes, get the revs at about 4000 rpm, with your right foot heel, and put it in first and let the clutch up..... you should get tyre smoke from both rear arches if you have an lsd. You may also get disapproving looks from neighbours and local plod.....

Alternatively, if you have one of those boring front wheel drive cars.... citroen saxo, etc... then just leave the handbrake on!
