is there any reason my car sounds quieter when its at running temp. its noiser when i start up. and goes quiter after about half hr???

Thermal expansion of metals perhaps? or claterry (is that a word) tappets?

its not mettallic noise i have and im presuming richie means the same, the car just sounds noiser (louder) and then quietens down once it is warm

thats it. could it be the exaust possibly. getting old and worn. sounds smoother after a good run.

Car should only take a few mins to get to running temp...are you sure the sound isnt a failing secondary air injection pump?

Mine takes in average approx. 4-5 mins (if stationary) to get to operating temp.

when I start from cold (in the morning), noise seems loud and when it has reached the operating temp of 94-95 its quiet.

mines the same and it takes about 2 mins of driving before it quietens, i previously had a 3.0 sintra and this was the same , i was told told it was a forced air pump that is active when the car is first started (dont know how true that is though )

Secondary Air Injection Pump can be seen looking up under the front passengers side of the engine bay just behind the corner of the bonnet...unplug it and if the noise goes away then thats your problem...

Exhaust manifold gaskets failing?  Blowing when cold as the metal expands it seals the gap.. That's my problem, Elite Pete had it too @ Shifnal meet..

It is part of the emissions control system and is designed to get the CAT up to working temperature as quick as possible. Once this is done it switches off.

When cold, you get a little bit of blow, then nothing after the metal heats. By all accounts, VX will charge you a shed load of money to have this rectified, but i have been driving with this issue for 10,000 miles. If you do want it fixed, it CAN be done without taking the engine out, so don't let Vaux tell you otherwise.

On reading the post again, i see that you said noise for half an HR, maybe not broken studs then
