Autobox issue
« on: 03 May 2008, 13:49:48 »

Looks like my new toy has revealed its hidden problem

I had been driving all morning in town, stop start traffic and was coming home, acclerated off the roundabout and it pulled fine, I then seemed to get what I can only describe as a heavy gearchange and automatic gearbox came up on the display. the car then drove normally.
I then came to pull out of a junction, no power, almost like a heavily slipping clutch. Got the car the very short distance home and switched off and unloaded the boot.
Got back in, started up and it seemed to drive fine?
Please tell me this isnt going to cost a bomb to sort out and that its something simple like oil service on the gearbox?

Are all the gear selector LED's lighting up together when this happens? If so it's quite likely the gearbox selector switch. This will cause the car to into limp mode and the TC and service lights to come on.

Right,

Daft question where is the gearbox dipstick?

Im lead to beleive I needthe engine running and the car in Neutral while I do this?

Do I need the engine running while topping it up?

Didnt notice the gearshift lights at the time so I cant answer that question im afraid.

It just seemed odd that after a couple of minutes being switched off, I restarted the car and it drove fine?

Thats true of the manual box only....in which case you flush it through and put the later stuff in.

All the autos used DexIII

Ok, topped it up with Dextron 3 and took it for a run, seems a bit better now, still had one "heavy" gear change but it may just need a bit more rof a run to settle it down, other than she drove fine, took it upto ***mph and back down and she was pulling well. Hopefully it was just ATF that caused my problem.
Right onto the next little bit lol

Thanks for the help people, much appreciated
