I've had a good search around only to find that there isn't much reason not to use Biodiesel (If it's well made) in a 2.5TD Omega. Well, apart from the lift pump maybe but I suspect that would be a problem if you where using untreated WVO or SVO.

Now, I manufacture my own stuff using a decent sized reactor, methanol, caustic soda and unfortunately I still wet wash the stuff but I will be switching to dry washing soon.

This is a 100% mix where the end result is a nice cold tea coloured liquid with more or less the same viscosity as normal pump diesel and none of the cold starting problems that you normally see with using untreated WVO or SVO.

Anyone else here using the same methods / end results? Any snags that you have come across?

Any help or advice would me most appreciated. :)

BMW engines don't like BIO fuels...

I suspect with a proper biodiesel they MAY be ok if they have a bosch or strong injection pump - but SVO or WVO in a BMW TD - forget it!

Pugs on the other hand - will burn anything you throw in them - talking from experience  ;D

this is the same engine as i have in my omega and i have gone up to 100%veg with no problems at all, passed an mot also. It has 167000 on the clock and is going strong.

I used to see a bloke with a shopping trolley full of tesco's veggie oil, pouring it into his 4x4 in tesco's carpark.........however now its 99p/L its really worth it anymore imo.......it was 70p/L when i saw him do this.......

My WVO costs me nothing.

The methanol costs £85 for a 205 Litre drum which treats 1020 Litres of WVO.

The Caustic Soda costs me about £7 for a 25KG bag which lasts me around 1000 Litres of WVO depending on the quality of the oil in the first place.

So if every 1000 Litres of fuel I create uses £7 worth of Caustic Soda and £82.93 of Methanol that costs me £89.93 for 1000 Litres of fuel or about 9p a litre.

Once you work in the costs such as the electricity used during the process, materials etc your looking at around 12p a litre.

The end result is a fuel which is a hell of a lot better for your engine than just chucking in SVO like the Tesco example used above.  :y

Just got two 205l drums of meth for nowt plus free WVO so my biodiesel will be even cheaper - just need to bodge a reactor together. Can't be that hard according to Joshua Tickell. How have you done yours? Hadn't thought of putting it in the Mega but I have two landies and tractor. Your experiences will be invaluable.

My reactor is just a 150 Gallon drum with a heating element welded in and a thermostat. It also has a drain at the bottom for the various stages, legs for clearance and a bracket to sit a drill for mixing. :)

hello mate's ! in romania, the diesel per liter is 1.14 GPB... very expesive for ours wages, i want to use biodiesel, and make at my home, for my 2001 y22dth omega, i want some recipes, tips, ideas to make biodiesel and safe for my omega. maybe some links, i've read some posts, links but complicated but I do not discourage ! please help those who had contact with it, experiences.

Make sure you change the fuel filter regular

as veg oil is more sticky than diesel clogs up filters more

Izuzu engined Astra not happy with biodiesel.  :(
Hilux Surf ran 50/50 veggie oil nicely. Great smell from exhaust!!  ::)

sorry... i'm interesting about injection pump, if i put mix of diesel and filtered,decanted oil from fast food are likely not to go pump ?
