Intermittent problem starting
« on: 29 April 2008, 18:20:00 »

the Omega (3.2 v6 ) has for the last few weeks had a starting problem , it would start/drive fine all week but for some strange reason it would not start on a Saturday between 5pm and 6pm for 3 consecutive weeks ( began to think the damn thing was possesed ) . However it threw me a wobbly yesterday evening ( strangly at 5.45pm ) and would,nt start . So took it today to the Vauxhall autospark i know and he checked it out on Tech 2 and found nothing registering anywhere at which point a mechanic was called across who said it was most likely a crank sensor fault . Is this most lkely the explanation or any other ideas ?? , if it is the crank sensor, what price am i looking at for one , and cost of installation  :(

Possibly, but not convinced.  Crank sensor is a common fault, but normally leaves a code in the engine management.

Try it with foot hard to floor (shouldn't start) for 5s, then try normally, see what happens then...

So what happens after cranking for 5s with foot through floorboards (not pumping), then attempting to start normally?

cranking at WOT disables injectors, and can clear a flooded engine (ie, if injectors are leaking when stood still)
