River Wild
« on: 20 October 2007, 18:59:10 »

I'm going kayaking tomorrow on my first proper river expedition.  It's expected to last 3 hours in total and I've finally learned how to eskimo roll, which may proove useful :-/

I was really looking forward to it as there are 25 of us (some better than others) and although the water will be cold the weather bright at the moment and it'll be a scary blast  :)

Only one small issue, reported here in the local press http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/viewarticle.aspx?id=555963

The rocks are well known locally as "The Graveyard" and that's half way down our route. :-/

So I hope to be back on line tomorrow, if not there will be a Star Silver Omega going cheap :-[

Hope you have better success than I did a numer of years ago, I remember going down the river and upon reaching a shallow part, rolling over and having my face bounce and scrape along the gravel on the bottom  :'( I attempted the roll thingy without success, so escaped the canoe as quickly as possible so save my dashing good looks  :)

I did finish the trip with a some what sore face.  My tip: Stick to the deep end  :y

With a water temperature just above freezing there's not much difference.

I practiced 2 rolls this morning and got brain freeze - so went to the shop and bought a neoprence skull cap - like an Ausie lifeguard wears to keep my barnet warm ;D

No AA it's not silver (yet) but the roof bars are now, and Captain Zok - yes it is shiny - cos I polished it with car wax - it seems to be the only one that forms beads  8-)
