who knows what this is??
« on: 22 May 2008, 15:51:38 »

found an oil leak this morning, right side rocker gasket is leaking.so got the new parts from vauxhall of course, new o rings etc. when i took plenum and skuttle off i had a good look round the back with torch and mirror,   and this is what i see, split half way round the pipe.  :o :o

so trimmed the edge and cleaned it up :y

never had so much grief trying to take off a rocker cover in my life, putting back was even worse, 3 attempts, well refitted everything and started up, sounds so much better, pulls away better now to. also no 4 plug, i think it was, wasnt in the dis pack properly.  well went to see my dad, pulled up outside and smoke coming out of bonnet. oil leak by oil filler tube, tightened a little but no diff.  :'( :'( :'(

Any guesses what im doing in the morning for another 4 hrs  ::) ::) ::)
we live and learn do we not??

That is a breather pipe, goes form the rear of the plenum to the breather box.

Had a similar problem with mine when I removed it to clean it.The hose clip causes the pipe to split and if it gets stuck on the rear breather box seems to require a good pull to get it off and pipe splits.I found the hardest bit was getting the stupid spring hose clip back on the pipe and then on the breather box...needed elastice fingers !!! Unsure how much a new pipe is from VX but almost worth buying a new one if split that bad .

Your mpg and performance should be considerably better now you have corrected what would have been a huge air leak!

Make sure you follow the guide and REMOVE the cable tray .. I know its a PITA but once the metal tray is gone, the loom can be tied back to the bonnet support strut quite easily .... and you suddenly get acres of room in comparison.

I left the tray the first time .... pointless .. had to redo the whole job as the gasket leaked .. it wasn't "sitting" right ... move the cable and the job was 200 times easier ..

Just my 2.35 p's worth (inc VAT)

You will get a bit of residual smoke/burning for a couple of days.  A good long run should sort it  :y
