I want to convert my Omega to LPG. I know that the conversion has to be in compliance with “Code of Practice 11 - Autogas Installations”. Is it the only document I need to follow to legally convert my car to LPG? Can I go to any approved installer and certify my LPG so that I will not have to pay extra insurance?
 Do you know if I can download “Code of Practice 11..” from internet or could I get a copy of one?

Legally as long as the car still complies with the construction and use regs you can do what you like.

COP 11 is the LPGA code of practice which you'll need to follow if you want to get it LPGA certified (and should follow it anyway, as it's common sense) but there is no legal requirement to have LPGA certification although most insurance companies will ask for it (and often it still increases the premium).

COP II is a guideline. As has been said before it is mostly common sense but is worth following! I have heard of professional installations which haven't actually followed COP to the letter and they still issue a certificate!

All the DIY kits i have seen and bought come with the guidlines, they are quite easy to follow, if you read them before fitting the kit to the car then my experience is you should not have a problem

it is silly stiff like how to mount the tank, how many straps are requred if it is XX size and how far from the welds do the straps have to go.

the fortunate thing is with the Omega there is plenty of space

I've got this document - there are only guidelines about safety etc, more important for equipment less for installation.. . Anyway – it’s better to read that than to do something without reading it.
Another thing that bothers me is that I’ve always had toroidal tank and I am bit concerned where to place cylindrical one. First thing is safety – what will happened if there will be an accident. Will it not be released  from the straps? Ive seen a car (Polo) with small tank (ca 40l) after an accident at about 30-40 MPH. 70% of the thread length in strap was cut. I know about the gas safety so I am a dummy which thinks that I will blow someday or will poison me. I just want to know if these straps are strong enough or is it safer to put enforcement around the tank.
Second thing – if I want to put it along the car, will it not affect stability of the car and suspension durability? One side will be ballasted permanently. I could put one big tank behind the seats but don’t want to lose space (to take stuff from IKEA for example ) Another idea is to put tank, half size the big one and get half of the folded seats.
What do you think? Any ideas of how to save some space?

For an estate I would put a toroidal tank in the spare wheel well every time. Range might be a little limiting but you keep all of the practicality of the estate. We fitted one to Marie's car and it worked well, despite having to drop the petrol tank down for access.

Out of interest how big was the tank? Mine can hold 38L of LPG.

I seem to remember James telling me you used a piece of carpet for the tank to sit on and that you didnt need to raise the boot floor up....

If so I was wondering why the LPG installers that did mine.....used quite a thick bit of foam to sit the tank on and consequently had to raise the boot floor up an inch or so........just seems like a lot more effort to go to if it wasnt needed for the LPGA regs  :-/

But then my tank may be bigger  :-/

Can't remember what size it was. Does about 240 miles on a fill according to Marie. It comfortably fitted under the existing floor with just a bit of old carpet for padding.

Does yours have the plumbing exiting the centre of the tank or the side? We went from a centre mounted multivalve down through the boot floor. Had to drop the petrol tank to do it though so maybe your installers ran the pluming between the tank and the bottom of the wheel well, and had to raise it?

I've toyed with the options for a tank and have decided that I'll just bite the bullet and lose the through load ability... I reckon I could get a set or roof bars at a reasonable price if I'm desperate or just borrow an estate from other family members if it's that bad!!

Kevin, having seen the petrol go up, yet again, by 3ppl overnight I've decided I'm going for the LPG conversion ASAP!! I'm going to do it in stages, over a few "weekends" (I work 4 on 4 off), and was wandering if you're still happy to do the manifold work for me??

Also thought that, perhaps, we may be able to help each other out on the installation if timings were to go right... Whaddya think? :question
