Key in drivers door lock and turn it clockwise, there will be quite a bit of resistance but, it will open.

Yep, turn the key really hard, it will feel like it's going to snap, but it should just click and the door will open.

Last time I had to do this, due to a flat battery, I connected the jump leads up, and the alarm went off - not ideal at 5.30am outside a block of flats!

That's the theory but when the battery of my car was flat enough to die, there was no way the key was poing to open the lock. With mine being a pre face lift I could open the boot to put a feed to the boot light, but I'd be inclined to put a feed to your starter motor from underneath the car.

Only got one key for it so really dont fancy snapping the key in the lock - I'm in the RAC, so i might just give them a call tonight and try and blag a free break-in.

Not the smartest thing i've ever done i have to say...

open the boot, kick in the arm rest, reach in and pull the back seats down then scramble forward. if you cant unlock it with the door lock thingies on the inside then you might be able to put power in through the ciggy lighter socket.

Or pop the bonnet and reconnect the battery ;)

Its a facelift so not so easy to pop the boot......could connect jump leads to the chassis and starter motor supply though.

The key trick works though.

Humm - a bit of time has passed since your last post so I am not sure whether you have solved your problem.

I have this problem on a 2.0 gls - flat battery.  This had a boot key so I could open the boot and then push out the read head rest from behind and the head rest support sleaves.  They I made up a bit tool from 15mm copper pipe I had lying around and used that to drop the back seat.  Once in the car I would open the bonnet and deal with the battery.

The RAC may not be able to help - the whole point of dead locking is that a slim him (the tool the slip down the side of the window) will not work.  It is usually a question of finding out which window is the cheapest!

I see others have suggested that exteral battery connection which should work too.

Hope it works out.  It would would be heart braking to have to smash a window!

Pull the door handle and then turn the key. This will make it easier. Otherwise you may snap the key in.
