Oil leak on a 2001 2.2 petrol
« on: 25 May 2008, 20:31:09 »

During a recent routine check (ok, washer fluid fillup) I noticed some oil under the oil filter. The first suspicion was on the filter, but it was completely dry. We (my dad had a look too) cleaned up the visible oil stains, and the next day there was a small puddle of oil approximately under the crankshaft pulley. The leak is not catastrophic, the level stayed right in the middle of the dipstick range for at least few days.

The marked part is approximately where the new puddle formed. We were at a loss for a while, since everything appeared dry as far as we could see/touch. Luckily, there's a lot of space in there with the I4 engine, so I stuck a camera down there and this is what I got:

So... there. Couldn't get a better shot due to lighting and lack of space. It's not very likely that we'd be able to fix this ourselves due to a lack of tools and garage, but I'd like to hear some opinions on what could be the common problems with symptoms like this. The last cambelt and front brake rotor change cost quite a bit more than I hoped so at the very least I'd have some points of reference.
Thanks in advance!
