Omega M reg immobiliser problem
« on: 23 May 2008, 18:30:30 »

my old omega has a built in immobiliser, the problem is that the batteries in the key fob only seem to last a week. It takes 2 2025 cell batteries, even good energiser ones die really quick. Is there any way i can disable the immobiliser or is there another way apart from using the button on the key ring to turn it off. The batteries die so quick i always need to keep a spare set in the car but i know at some point they will die and i wont have any and i wont be able to turn off the darn immobiliser and ill just be stuck in my car and unable to go anywhere just because of this crappy immobilser.

Tha batteries are for the remote locking. The immobiliser is nothing to do with the batteries. When you open the key you'll find a chip, this is what 'talks' to the car's immobiliser when you come to start the car.

Sounds to me like you have a faulty keyfob.  My batteries last well over a year !!

If it has an LED is this on all the time ?? My guess is you either have an internal short or a button is stuck "ON"

New keyfob might be the answer

can you buy new key fobs for cars this old? Is it just a general one for the immobilser, are they not specific to each car?

Yes they are but "main dealer only", you buy the key/fob then it has tobe programed, get a quote first.

Buy a second hand fob from an M reg...take out the chip from yours and put it in the new one...job done...

Or use the spare as it sounds like that one isnt suffering from the same problem?
