bad luck
« on: 01 June 2008, 19:17:55 »

i recently bought a 1999 v omega 2.5 elite auto from auction. It has 85,000 miles on the clock and fsh and as drove it home it started tapping and as it reached an incline it started dying so i gave it more power in kickdown it died.I was on a motorway so managed to get it on the hard shoulder.A little smoke came out of side of bonnet,it woud,nt start. Before temp was normal,no warnings etc.

I took cam cover off and turned key it just turns over, belt turns all cams and crank but sounds like it,s turning over to easily.

In the service pack there was a reciept for belt and tensioners by independent garage at 44,000 miles

Any answers to my problem as the car is immaculate with every luxury working like new

Not necessarily, but sometimes.  Report back what you get.

Check the plug wells for oil .. if the cam cover gasket has failed and filled the plug wells with oil this can cause the DIS pack or the plugs/leads to fail .. :(

This does NOT give an EML light as the EML does NOT monitor the HT side of things

You say you took the cam cover off .. I believe you took the CAM-BELT COVER off ... different thing !!  Cam covers (you have 2) are a tad harder to get at !!
